LIKE OLD TIMES

This coming Friday (19th), Very Nice Harry will be returning to where it all started. We will be playing The Cornerstone arts centre in Didcot.

Sam will be entertaining for a brief 30 mins with some classic acoustic covers then a short break before the full band set up for an extended set, playing some old classics to some new songs due for release! Maybe a cover or two.

Kicking off at 8pm!

We look forward to seeing you all again, it’s been too long :)

Big love.

FESTIVE GIG WEEKEND!

It’s that time of year again – cold walks to the venue, queue’s at the coat rack, fingers too chilly to play guitar. Well there’s not much we can do about that, so why not embrace the December freeze and come along to some of Oxfords finest festive gigs.

We will be coming out of hibernation with new material and to promote our new single POWDER which will be released in January!

GIG ONE

We will be opening Gappy Tooth Industries Winter Warmer gig on Saturday.

POW! POW! (Der)

We’ve finished, recording at least, our upcoming single Powder, with a glorious bonus track Lens Flare sellotaped on the back for your aural consumption. Recording took place over two long days at Safehouse Studio in Oxford working with Kit Monteith of Trophy Wife, and producer Tim Roberts. This promises to be our best release to date, not only because the songs are – we believe – more mature than previous releases, but because Kit has completely ripped them apart, thrown bits in the Biffa outside, and glued bits back in the wrong place; bringing a more catchy and commercially viable sound. Allowing us free reign of the studio and all it has to offer has meant that what started as your standard VNH set up of drums, bass, guitar, synth and vocals has now grown to include Rhodes piano, Memotron keys, string sections, bells, electronic drums and clapping and all four members huddled round a microphone shouting random words in and out of time and tune… Particular highlights were ten minutes of Darryl strumming two chords while Mark relentlessly twiddled the volume knob until his wrist gave out; Sam creating ambient sounds by punching a guitar and hitting it with a headphone cable; and Alexis rising to the challenge of his beat being rewritten five minutes before the record button was hit.

Now it’s a waiting game as Kit and Tim huddle round the G5 mixing and mastering, it could be weeks as although there’s only four of us we managed to record around fifty stems for each track. We’re as excited as you guys to see how they turn out because there’s quite a few options on how we could make the finished tracks sound. Do you want dark and ambient? Or upbeat and bouncy? It could go either way!

We will obviously be making a huge song and dance when the tracks are finished so you will definitely know they’re coming. And with Kit contributing his brilliant bell rustling and shaker shaking skills to the tracks, they will of course be released as ‘VNH feat. Trophy Wife’ (Not yet confirmed, no copyright intended)

New VNH!

Welcome to the new website design! As you may have guessed we have an announcement to make. Next week we will be heading to Safehouse Studios to record our new two track release with Kit Monteith and producer Tim Robinson. We will be releasing it under the title track ‘POWDER’.

We are currently working with our management to organise a small promo tour for the release over October/November.

Our next pre tour show will be the following…

VIDEO | DEMOS | REVIEW

Howdie!

A few exciting updates since the last post…

Thanks to a local film team, we are able to release a live video of our recent performance at Truck Store, Oxford. We chose to release a new track, ‘Adagio for Korg In G’. A more melodic, calm and cheerful song of ours.

Let us know what you think!

Secondly, We have had our demos back from our recent live recording at Safehouse Studios. The two (top secret) tracks we have chosen to record are sounding BIG already, we are looking forward to recording the real thing in September. Remixes and music videos are also on the cards for a late October release.

Finally, a review from the guys over at Music In Oxford from our performance on the Barn Stage at this year’s Truck Festival.

Have a read!

“Very Nice Harry, in The Barn, combine a number of Oxfordian influences (Foals, Black Hats, Radiohead) into an effervescent and interesting sound that hints at becoming more than just the sum of those influences. A mental note is made to investigate them further”
